King Lear
Designed by Isy Kessler
Located on the first floor of Waverley Hills Sanatorium in Louisville, Kentucky
Inspired by the deteriorated and cryptic nature of its hospital corridors, I felt the Waverely Hills Sanatorium was the perfect place to stage an immersive production of Shakespeare King Lear as it echos the mad king’s tragic tale of abandonment and delirium. Each show would have 3 audiences of 15 people which would pulse through the experience with their own separate cast. The first round of audience members would enter the experience 1 hour before sunset, the next group 30 minutes before sunset and the last group right as the sun is setting. This pacing should allow the audience members to move smoothly throughout the experience without meeting the other groups.
